We are all aware that we should begin teaching our children the basic tenets of Islam from an early age. This is the responsibility of every parent. Along with the responsibility of teaching is the responsibility of caring. During Ramadhaan, we encourage our children to keep fasts and we are all proud to say that my child has kept so many fasts for the whole month or he/she has kept so many fasts at such a young age. However, we also know how difficult it was for the very young to fast during the hot days.
Children are active and thus burn up all their energy by running, jumping or playing in the heat and as a result get thirsty and hungry. My appeal to all those parents and guardians of the fasting children is to make sure they eat and drink sufficiently at the time of Sehri and also make certain that they are not exposed to heat so much so that they tire easily and may suffer heat exhaustion or dehydration.
We have to remember that our children are entrusted to us by Almighty Allah Taãla and it is undoubtedly the duty of every parent to ensure that our children are adequately cared for during the Holy month. Caring for our children is a great Ibaadat for which we will be indeed be rewarded, Insha Allah.
