It is sad to note nowadays that a great number of Lotto winners are Muslims. These Muslims are proud to even have their names and photographs published in the newspapers. What a way to reveal their sins. May Allah Taãla protect us.
Islam totally prohibits gambling. If one has to purchase a ticket or enter into a competition for a fee, then this constitutes gambling according to the Shariáh. The prize or money acquired by this means is Haraam for a Muslim even though the cause may be good, even if the money is used for the poor and needy. This argument has been repeatedly heard from many people; then in that case why not give charity without entering the competition? And to have someone say that 'part of my win' will be given to charity thereafter is absolute nonsense.
Muslims must be guided by the Noble Qurãn and Sunnah in every facet of their lives.
