A number of Christian missionary societies in South Afrika have become strong in their missionary work to reach the Muslims. Short story books are being distributed on the streets and at times near the Masjid after Jumuáh Salaat.
Among other methods used in winning the hearts of the unwary Muslim and being as convincing as possible is to use a 'Muslim' name who 'converted' to Christianity. In order to make it more interesting and exciting, there are nowadays stories of 'Muslim scholars' who studied at famous 'Islamic' institutions and accepted Christianity. An example of this is a certain 'Mustafa' (a former teacher of Islamic History at al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt) who gives an exposition of Islam versus Christianity in the book, 'Against the tides in the Middle East' published by the International Academic Centre for Muslim Evangelism. The society is based somewhere in Johannesburg.
After having received complaints from Muslims in the Eastern Transvaal where this booklet was distributed, we decided to write to Mustafa about his 'conversion' to Christianity. Two weeks after writing to 'Mustafa' we received a surprise telephone call from him. At first, he was polite in the conversation and when he was asked to meet with us either at our offices or alternatively at a venue convenient to him, he said he was speaking from America - mind you we had already been twenty minutes on the phone. When we asked him for his telephone number in America, he quickly slammed the phone down. That is the last time we heard from 'Mustafa'.
